Kate Nowak: Top 10 employers in Moffat County released
A recent report released by Yampa Valley Data Partners indicates that the top 10 employers in Moffat County account for 30 percent of all county jobs. The report details the percentages of each top employer to the top 10 and to the total number of jobs in the county. Further classification into industry sectors helps to see our top industry employment.
The report lists employers in two categories. The first category is the “Top Ten Employers” who have the largest number of full-time employees, which gives us an idea of the breadth of employment in the year round organization. The second category includes full-time, part-time, seasonal, per diem, on call and regular independent contractors, which will tell us how many people from Moffat County the companies employ throughout the year.
It’s no surprise that energy jobs are one of the top 10 employments in Moffat County. The energy and utility industry account for 1,006 jobs or 44.6 percent of the top 10 jobs in Moffat. For another perspective, of the top 10 employers, the energy/utility employers account for 13 percent of all jobs in Moffat County.
Here are some interesting findings:
■ The most recent jobs data from Colorado Office of Economic Development & International Trade’s Economic Modeling Specialists Intl. reports the total number of 2012 jobs to be 7,512 and 20,841 in Moffat and Routt counties, respectively. This includes full-time and part-time jobs.
■ The Moffat County top 10 employers supported 2,255 of 7,512 jobs, or 30 percent, of the total jobs in the county.
■ The Routt County top 10 employers supported 4,549 of 20,841 jobs or, 22 percent, of the total jobs in the county.
■ Routt County has more fluctuation in employment with a 50 percent increase in part-time/seasonal employees whereas Moffat has a 15 percent increase in employment.
■ The top ten employers fall into five industry groups.
— Moffat: Energy, education, public (county and city), retail, healthcare
— Routt: recreation/tourism, public (county, city, K-12 schools), healthcare, energy
