Julie Dempster: Honor Adams the right way

To the editor:

This is in response to Wednesday’s editorial.

I am definitely not disappointed in how the school district handled the naming of Sandrock Elementary.

The idea to take the schoolchildren’s opinion into consideration was a wonderful idea, and the kids got to see that their vote mattered.

Our children got a chance to raise their voice, vote and be a part of a democratic process. If the school district had not taken their voice into consideration at all, what would that have taught them?

I think what’s not fair was setting Maj. Bill E. Adams up in the first place. We absolutely should honor our fallen Vietnam hero. But to honor him properly, let’s do it the right way, not just throw his name into a hat.
