John P. Kostiuk

1909-2002
Craig resident John P. Kostiuk died June 22, 2002, at Valley View Manor in Craig. He was 93.
Kostiuk was born Feb. 19, 2002, in the Province of Lviv in Ukraine, to Pavlo and Xenia (Remenioska) Kostiuk. He was raised and attended school in the Ukraine, graduating from the University of Jan Kasimir in Liviv in 1934 with a master’s degree in psychology.
He married Sophia Horoszka on Aug. 4, 1938.
Kostiuk was a teacher before WWII. After WWII, he obtained a degree in pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Austria. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to the Denver area where he worked as a chemist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture for 20 years.
He was very active in his church and in various Ukranian youth organizations. Later, he moved to Hayden to be near his son and finally became a resident of Valley View Manor in Craig.
Kostiuk is survived by his sons, George (Lois) Kostiuk, Hayden, Oleh Kostiuk, Cave Junction, Ore., and Chris (Lynne) Kostiuk, of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
