Joel Browning joins Moffat County School District Board of Education
Though a well-known face around town, Joel Browning is a new face to the Moffat County School District Board of Education.
Barely making the deadline to apply for the vacancy, Browning was chosen and joined the board representing District 5 at the December board of education meeting.
With eight nephews, one niece and one of his own on the way, Browning has plenty of reason to take an interest in Craig’s education.
Browning may still be trying to get a handle on his new role with the board, but said he hopes to have a better understanding of things being taught to students and maintaining a reasonable budget.
Though some people feel there is less educational opportunity in small towns, Browning said he totally disagrees.
“Just because we’re a small town, doesn’t mean kids shouldn’t receive a top notch education or the same opportunities as kids in bigger cities,” Browning said.
An opportunity to see the ins and outs of everyday education in Craig, Browning said he’s excited to see where teachers are at, and get a good idea of both concerns from staff and the community.
Learning to work with the existing board members and administration, Browning said he feels superintendent Dr. Joe Petrone would like them all to come together to work for the betterment of the district.
“I’m just excited to learn,” Browning said.
