Jennifer Riley: Vote Jones for mayor
To the editor:
It is my pleasure to write a letter of support for Don Jones in his upcoming bid for mayor of Craig. I’ve known Don for most of my life, but I didn’t get to know Don really well until I was elected to city council in 2009, when Don was serving as mayor. As a new council member, I appreciated the leadership that Don provided — to the community, to the council and to me, personally. Our community is at a critical turning point, and I believe Don is the leader we need to bring us together and move us forward.
Don is passionate about Craig — he’s raised his boys here, he owns a successful business and now he’s watching his grandchildren grow up here. He wants to ensure that this continues. Don has said that Craig has the assets it needs to succeed — industry, infrastructure, healthcare and education — and he wants to help this community embrace these assets. Don’s track record demonstrates his genuine desire to strengthen these key components of our community.
During my time serving with Don on city council, he not only encouraged input and communication, he sought it out. He’s not afraid to dig in and ask tough questions; alternately, he’ll listen and consider other points of view. Either way, Don is honest and transparent with his communication.
Don is willing to work with others to build consensus and develop a plan. In the past this has included working with the elected officials at the county and leaders from other community partners such as the college and the hospital. All of these partners will have to continue finding new ways to work together and support each other to be successful, and Don is the best person to make this happen.
Don Jones has been a valuable member of city council, and with your vote, he will once again serve this community as mayor of Craig.
Sharing thanks, enjoying some laughs, and shedding a few tears are an indicator of the emotional levels that always seem to come with Moffat County High School graduation.
