Jackie Manley: Sen. John McCain not overlooking war

— With the upcoming caucuses and the Republican presidential race heating up, it is time for voters to seriously consider who they will choose for the GOP presidential nomination.

One factor seems to be overlooked by many candidates – except one.

Sen. John McCain realizes our nation is at war, both with external enemies (the Taliban, al-Qaida, etc.) and with waste and corruption in our own government.

He has consistently urged Congress to keep troops in Iraq, to honorably finish the war on terrorism and to keep the nation safe from those who wish to inflict another 9/11 on the United States. We are at war, and we need a war-time president with the ability and experience to be the next commander in chief immediately.

Having seen firsthand the aftermath of Madrid’s train bombings several years ago, I am more than ever impressed with the reality of this war and the consequences of failing to finish the job we started in Iraq and Afghanistan.

John McCain has supported our troops, even when it was not politically correct or expedient, and supported our war on terrorism. He has also fiercely attacked waste and corruption in our federal government, one of the chief causes of our current recession. Pork barrel spending must be eliminated, and John McCain fights to do so. If you agree, as I do, that a strong national defense and a fiscally responsible government are important, please support John McCain for president.

Sincerely,

Jackie Manley
