Irene E Rasmussen

Irene E Rasmussen, 98, died Sept. 18, 2002, at the Colonial Columns Nursing Home in Colorado Springs.

Rasmussen was born Oct. 24, 1903 in Creston, lowa, to Stephen A. and Harriet Graham Hurd.

The family moved to Moffat County in 1917 where her father took up a homestead on Little Bear Creek. Rasmussen lived most of the rest ot her life in or near Craig.

She graduated from Craig High School in 1924 and attended both Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley and the University of Colorado in Boulder. She became a teacher and taught in rural schools north of Craig until 1934.

She married Frank L. Rasmussen June 22, 1933, in Chicago while at the World’s Fair. After finishing the school term of 1933-34 she and Frank ranched Little Bear Creek for many years.

Following Frank’s death in 1960, Irene eventually sold the ranch and moved into Craig She lived here until 1992 when she moved to Canon City, Colo. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1997.

Rasmussen is survived by her niece, Betty Baker Dill and nephew, James E. Hurd, both of Colorado Springs.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Cliflord A. (Bud) Hurd and her sisters, Lela Raker and Celia Bezenah.

Private services were held. Interment was in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery in Craig.
