— A 30-year-old woman was airlifted from the Routt National Forest after being injured Friday.

About 3:30 p.m., North Routt Fire Protection District firefighters and Routt County Search and Rescue volunteers were called to help the woman, who had been camping with a hunting outfitter. She was off Forest Service Rode 496 and was unconscious, but breathing. The people with the woman believed she might have broken her back.

An Air Classic Medical helicopter crew was dispatched to help the woman. Classic’s Chad Bowdre said they reached the woman at 4:40 p.m. before other emergency responders arrived. The helicopter was able to land about 50 yards from the woman.

The woman was flown to Denver Health Medical Center and arrived about 6 p.m.

Bowdre said the woman had left camp with her horse about 3:15 p.m. and was found on the ground about 3:30 p.m.

“It was an unwitnessed event,” Bowdre said.
