Holiday Happenings: Small Business Saturday offers huge discounts

Support your locally owned stores as you embark on the annual Christmas shopping adventure. Many Craig establishments will be offering special deals, and even if you're not buying yet, getting out of the house and socializing can help get you in the holiday spirit.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

• Parade of Lights

If you're still not feeling it, you won't be able to avoid the yuletide joy once you watch the procession of the Parade of Lights, sponsored by Downtown Business Association and organized Craig Lions Club. This year's theme is Down Home Christmas, and entries will be accepted until the parade begins. The route begins at Craig Middle School, runs down Yampa Avenue and turns onto Victory Way, continuing until Ledford Street. The Festival of Trees will be visible on the second floor of the Moffat County Courthouse, as well, before the display becomes public on Dec. 1.

When: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday

• Gingerbread House Contest

If you like to make gingerbread houses, enter your creative edible house in the Craig Gingerbread House Contest. All entries must be received at the Museum of Northwest Colorado by 3 p.m. on Thursday. To enter, participants can pay the $6 entry fee at KS Kreations or The Kitchen Shop. The entry fees cover the cost of Masonite boards given to participants. A $50 downtown spree bucks prize will be awarded to each the kid/family division and the adult division.

When: Deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday

• Holiday Artisan Market

Photographers, artists, musicians and more will show their work at the Fifth Annual Holiday Artisan Market at Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion. Yampa Valley Artists will have gifts galore on hand for the thirsty holiday shoppers. Stop by between 3 and 7 p.m. Friday or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 to view handcrafts, woodworking, gourd art and stained glass gifts.

When: 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6.

• Down Home Christmas Celebration

The Downtown Business Association will host its first Down Home Christmas Celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 in downtown Craig along the 400 and 500 blocks of Yampa Avenue. Participants can check out decorated store fronts and vote on their favorite decorated business by submitting a can food item. All canned food donations will go to the local food bank. Wagon rides, live music from local choirs, Santa, refreshments and chestnuts roasting on an open fire are only a few of the activities.
