Holiday Happenings: Enjoyable events, charitable causes
With December upon us, the list of holiday activities in Craig and Moffat County goes on and on, so just like Saint Nick, you may want to check it twice to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Festival of Trees
Hosted by Moffat County Youth United Way and Moffat County High School Key Club, this display of terrific tannenbaums will brighten your day as much as it spruces up the halls of the Moffat County Courthouse. In addition to the regular hours for the public, special seasonal activities will be available on Dec. 11, 13 and 18, for which all are welcome.
When: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Jan. 9; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 18; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 13

KRAI Holiday Drive
Help make Christmas a little merrier for those in the area who might not otherwise have much by contributing to the 16th annual Holiday Drive, hosted by KRAI. Organizers will be out in front of Centennial Mall bright and early collecting cash, non-perishable food items, toys and other types of gifts on behalf of Interfaith Food Bank, Advocates Crisis Support Services, Christmas for Kids and Christmas for Seniors. Last year, the effort brought in more than $28,000 in funds, 2,000 new toys and nearly three tons of food, with their sights set on more.

Holiday Home Tour
Get ready for loads of decorations and plenty of good cheer as part of Philanthropic Educational Organization’s scholarship fundraiser for local students. Groups will travel to several locations around town to take in lights and other displays, as well as getting to know people from around the community as they open their homes to them.
Those involved can also get their names in drawings for gift baskets at each stop. Tickets are $10 and are available to ages 12 and older at MJK, The Kitchen Shop and Precision Auto Service.
When: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday; 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday

Holiday Artisan Market
Photographers, artists, musicians and more will show their work at the fifth annual Holiday Artisan Market at Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion. Yampa Valley Artists will have gifts galore on hand for the thirsty holiday shoppers. Stop by between 3 and 7 p.m. Friday or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to view handcrafts, woodworking, gourd art and stained glass gifts.

Down Home Christmas Celebration
The Downtown Business Association will host its inaugural Down Home Christmas Celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday in downtown Craig along the 400 and 500 blocks of Yampa Avenue. Participants can check out decorated storefronts and vote on their favorite decorated business by submitting a canned food item. All canned food donations will go to the local food bank. Wagon rides, live music from local performers, Santa Claus and plenty of refreshments are only a few of the activities.

The Boys & Girls Club of Craig celebrates 10 years of Cowboy Christmas, a night of good food, dancing, live music and more as a way to support the youth organization that benefits many local kids. This year’s entertainment includes Yampa Valley band Sun Dog, silent and live auctions and games of Texas Hold ‘Em and blackjack.
Honorees that will be announced include the Boys & Girls Club’s Youth of the Year.

Holiday Open House
Conservation Colorado will host an open house and fundraiser that will offer hot drinks and a sugar cookie decoration bar, as well as information about the nonprofit organization should those who attend be inclined to contribute to the cause as part of Colorado Gives Day.
