If you’ve got tacky winter apparel just moldering in the closet, the time is now to pull it out of mothballs because not only could it provide some fun, it may even win you a prize.

Carelli’s Pizzeria & Pasta will host an Ugly Sweater Party on Saturday evening, a night of festivities for its patrons.

Owner Brett Etzler called on all his regular customers and anyone else who wants to join in to find the most hilariously bad Christmas sweater they can to compete against one another.

“I think creativity and just loud ugliness will be the definition,” he said, noting that the parameters mostly are up to the participants.

Winners will get gift certificates good for future Carelli’s orders.

It wouldn’t be a party without some delicious entrees and specialty dishes like salmon and prime rib that will be served, along with some unique new beers from microbreweries across Colorado. The crowd also will be entertained by live music provided by Craig Thornhill.

Etzler said he expects a large turnout for the holiday event.

“It’s going to get pretty crazy,” he said.

For those who can’t attend the Christmas party — or those who do and can’t get enough of Carelli’s food — there also will be the eatery’s New Year’s Eve extravaganza Tuesday night, which offers a selection of high-end crab legs in addition to its usual menu.

“Reservations are recommended because that’s one of our biggest nights,” he said.
