The roof on a building at 300 Breeze St. collapsed around 8 a.m. Friday morning.

No one was inside and the building was mostly used for storage, Craig Police Department Commander Bill Leonard said.

The utility companies were contacted to make sure there was no gas, water or electric going to the building.

Yampa Valley Electric Association shut off the electricity at the location and Craig Police Department has handed the matter off to the city.

Craig City Manager Jim Ferree said the city building inspector has spoken with the property owner and they will allow him some time to consider his options.

“We eventually want to make sure it’s secured or demolished so it’s not a public safety hazard,” Ferree said.
