During National Hospital Week (May 11–17), Memorial Regional Health will recognize the powerful role that local, community hospitals play in the fabric of rural life.

In places like Moffat County, the hospital is more than a place to receive care — it’s an economic engine, a trusted neighbor, and a symbol of resilience. With 80% of MRH employees living in the county, their $26.8 million in wages stay local — fueling families, small businesses and schools.

The impact goes even further: every hospital job supports two more jobs in the community, and every dollar spent by the hospital generates $2.30 in local business activity, contributing to an impressive $61.6 million in economic growth. Rural healthcare matters — because strong local hospitals build healthier, stronger communities.

Choosing MRH means choosing Craig. As proudly displayed in the hospital and at its clinics, MRH takes great pride in treating patients like family. Caregivers are not only medical professionals, but also neighbors, friends, and fellow community members. The MRH team is dedicated to helping individuals achieve their best health while working collectively to elevate the well-being of the entire community.

MRH continues to grow as a key force in both healthcare and economic stability in Moffat County. With more than 350 employees, it is one of the largest employers in the region, contributing significantly to the 750 jobs supported locally. More than 40 providers hold hospital privileges—many of whom are employed by MRH — ensuring access to high-quality, consistent care.

“When community members come to MRH for care, whether they know it or not, they’re helping ensure that we continue to have a community hospital,” said Sheli Steele, Marketing & Community Relations Director. “It’s because of our patients that we’re able to continue doing such a great job and providing so many essential and even ancillary services. The more care we provide, the more care providers we can have at MRH, including visiting specialists.”

Rural healthcare is essential to the strength and sustainability of communities like Craig. Hospitals like MRH provide critical access for residents who might otherwise face long, costly travel for lifesaving services. They improve quality of life, ensure quicker emergency response times, and build community resilience by keeping care close to home. Just as importantly, they serve as economic pillars, often being the largest and most stable employers in the area.

As the primary healthcare provider in the region, MRH  plays a key role in shaping the future of the community. A certified athletic trainer—an MRH employee—supports student-athletes within the Moffat County School District. MRH also invests in education by offering job shadowing opportunities and programs like Mini Med School to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.

During Hospital Week — and every week — MRH extends its heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff who serve with compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment.

Their efforts touch lives every day, from emergency rooms to wellness visits, and everywhere in between. MRH also sincerely thanks the community — the patients, families, neighbors and partners — who continue to choose and support their local hospital. When a community supports its local healthcare system, it becomes stronger, healthier and more connected. Together, MRH and Moffat County are building a brighter future.
