Hayden Town Council to consider liquor license for airport eatery
Group to consider alcohol permit transfer at Yampa Valley Regional Airport
Steamboat Springs — Charlie Epp is awaiting a single approval to offer a full menu at his secure-area eatery in Yampa Valley Regional Airport.
The Hayden Town Council is scheduled to consider at a meeting at 7 p.m. today whether to transfer the liquor license from Trini Riley’s Hot Dog’n Paradise to Epp’s Charlie’s ChuckWagon. Council members also will consider a temporary liquor permit until the license is transferred, if it’s approved.
Airport Manager Dave Ruppel has said Riley, who operated HDN Paradise Bar & Grill and the secure-area hot dog stand, defaulted on her contract with Routt County to provide concessions at YVRA. The restaurant and hot dog stand were shut down last month, and Ruppel invited Epp to provide food services.
Epp initially served only cold deli sandwiches, but Friday he began offering a variety of food options inside the terminal.
Epp’s menu includes barbecue beef and pork sandwiches with his homemade mango habanero barbecue sauce; elk and buffalo bratwurst; hot pretzels; Frito pies; a variety of hot dogs; ham, roast beef and smoked turkey sandwiches; and breakfast items such as bagels, breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos; in addition to soft drinks, coffee, chips and candy.
He said prices for the main-course options range from about $4 to $6.50.
“I’m finally in there, and it’s exciting,” Epp said. “I love dealing with the traveling public.”
If the Town Council approves the liquor license transfer and temporary liquor permit, Epp said he hopes to begin serving beer and wine Friday.
In other action, the Town Council will appoint its members to local boards and commissions. Town Council members also will convene in executive session to discuss Hayden Police Department personnel.
Sgt. Gordon Booco has been appointed acting chief of police. In six months, the town plans to open the position to applicants, including officers in the department and Booco.
The meeting is the first for new Town Manager David Torgler and the last for Interim Town Manager Lance Stewart.
