Hayden Reader of the Week: Emily Hockaday

Emily Hockaday is the Reader of the Week.

The reader of the week for Hayden Public Library’s Summer Reading program is five year old Emily Hockaday. Emily is a well-known patron of the library. She has lived in Hayden her whole life along with her parents Shawn and Leslie Hockaday. She has two brothers, Tyler who is 16, and Joseph who is 9. Both of Emily’s brothers have been Readers of the Week! The family has a dog named Gizmo, cats Tinka, Myla and Nips, plus rabbits Whopper, Snuggle Bunny, and two baby rabbits.

Her favorite color is red (so is her hair), and her favorite food is watermelon. Emily’s favorite subject in school is art and her favorite sport is wrestling, which she participates in along with her brothers. Emily enjoys playing with her friend Chase, who is six.

Emily enjoys fishing, swimming, tubing the Yampa River and catching crawdads. Her favorite book is Biscuit by Alyssa Capucilli. She also enjoys watching Clifford the Big Red Dog.

When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, Emily replied, “I want to work at the DA’s office like my mom.”

The family goes camping and staying in a motel to swim as often as they can. Emily was very excited when she found out she was the Reader of the Week—she has been trying to win all summer!
