Governor orders flags lowered in honor of fallen pilot

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

Gov. John Hickenlooper issued an order Thursday that flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide Friday. The flags are to be lowered in honor of Col. Leo S. Boston from sunrise to sunset.

Boston was the pilot of an A1 Skyraider that was on a search-and-rescue mission in North Vietnam on April 29, 1966. The aircraft was later reported missing.

Boston’s status remained as missing until April 27, 1978, when it was changed to presumed dead. His partial remains were later found and identified.

Boston was a Canon City native.

A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs.
