George Herod Jr.: Thanks for making our loss easier to bear

To the editor:

It is always difficult to lose someone close to you, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who helped us through our loss with support, meals, cards and flowers. First of all, thanks to Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehab for the care they gave my dad, Dr. Dennis Kinder, the nurses at The Memorial Hospital, Ivy Davis and Gloria Schneider, who stayed voluntarily with my mom when I couldn’t be there for her, and Pastor Rod Compton of Calvary Baptist Church. It was difficult being out of town when my dad passed away, but it was comforting knowing that my mom had people here to help her. Alzheimer’s disease stole so much of my dad’s mind, and it was scary wondering how long he was going to remember his children. I thank God that he took him home quickly before that happened. I am going to miss the times that we spent fishing and rock hunting and am sad that my children will never know him, but I look forward to seeing him again in heaven. I am very grateful for the values that my dad instilled in me and hope to pass on his legacy of God, our great country and flag, and the importance of family. He loved his family and many friends, and I would just like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
