Moffat County High School’s C-Team hoopsters were in action throughout the weekend during a Saturday tournament in Craig.

MCHS girls split during the event for younger players, taking an early morning win, 33-27 against Battle Mountain, followed by a 49-13 beating by Uintah, their second loss to the Utes, 42-22 earlier in the week.

“That’s a good team,” coach Shalyn Steffan said of the Vernal, Utah squad.

Steffan added that the level of experience for her crew continues to grow game by game.

“We’ve got four girls, this is their first year ever playing basketball, so they’re doing great,” she said.

A Friday night game also saw girls win 39-33 against Meeker, while the group outlasted Aspen’s junior varsity squad 26-22 Monday.

Boys C-Team fell to the Cowboys Friday night and went on to take a 57-49 morning loss to Battle Mountain before a 76-40 defeat to Fruita Monument much later in the day.

“Doing a morning game and an evening game is really tough because of all the waiting and too much of a break,” coach Andy Browning said. “Too much rest, you lose your momentum.”

Even so, teamwork was strong with the group, he said.

C-Teams next play Feb. 5 at home against Coal Ridge.
