Former area student to play college hoops
Brian Davidson, a former student in the Moffat County School District and now a senior at Montrose High School, recently announced that he has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, according to a news release.
Davidson attended Craig Intermediate School and Craig Middle School while living in Craig.
Other schools to recruit or contact Davidson, according to the release, were Denver University, Davidson College, Adams State College and Western State College.
“I want to thank the schools that have contacted me, but in the end getting a chance to both play ball and learn at a highly-ranked college like the Air Force Academy, plus getting to serve my country afterwards, was just too good to pass up,” Davidson said in the release. “The coaching staff at Air Force are awesome. What a fantastic opportunity.”
Davidson moved to Craig at 11 years old. Since then, his summers have been spent playing in basketball tournaments around the country in cities including Las Vegas, Dallas and Los Angeles.

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.
He credited current and past coaches as helping him get to the next level — Division 1 college basketball. Air Force Academy plays in the Mountain West conference.
“Being able to play Division 1 basketball, and coming from Colorado towns like Montrose and prior to that Craig, has taught me the importance of dedication and of having good help,” Davidson said in the release. “Thankfully I’ve had some coaches in my past at every level to help me improve.
“It seems like wherever I lived, I was lucky to have great coaching. I have seen what hard work can do and am hoping to rise to the challenge, to show good Division 1 players can come from Colorado’s Western Slope.”
Davidson has a 3.9 grade point average and hopes to major in mathematics or science at the Air Force Academy.
He is the son of Don and Rhonda Davidson, of Montrose. Don served as the principal at Craig Intermediate School from 2002 to 2006.
