Having won 8 games in a row last year, breaking every record set in Moffat County history, and making it to the second round in playoffs, last season will be hard to beat for the MCHS soccer team.

So far the team has had 3 league wins, 1 league tie, and 2 league losses. “Last year was amazing,” Rusty Cox said. “It was probably the best team Moffat County has ever had,” Jonathan Pando said.

Rusty Cox, coach for the boys varsity soccer team has been coaching this team for about 7 years. “Some of them I’ve had since like U10, that’s 10 year olds,” Cox said.

With more freshman and less upperclassmen on the bench this year, the season has been completely different. More teaching has been involved, “there’s always teaching,” Cox said. There has been a lot of switching out on the bench this year. “Injuries have plagued us this year,” Cox said. With 7 freshman on the team this year, none of them have never played at varsity level before. “Nothing you can say can get them ready for that,” Cox said. A couple of them have already started games due to injuries to other players.

The last game against Steamboat determines who goes to playoffs. The team lost the first round. Playing ranked number 2 in the league made it tough. “It was a hard fought game.” Cox said.

The upperclassmen have really been leading the freshman this year. Saying the team has improved is a bit sketchy though. “Last year was the dream team,” team captain Jonathan Pando says.
