Fitness Tip: Shin Splints
July 5, 2014
Everyone from a seasoned athlete to an occasional brisk walker and those in between has probably experienced shin splints at one time or another. They can be caused from shoes lacking support, a change in walking/running surfaces, or insufficient stretching. Shin splints can be avoided, or at least minimized, by wearing well supported shoes, warming up and cooling down with stretches, discontinuing your workout when feeling pain, and by avoiding running or playing on hard surfaces such as concrete. Shin splints respond well to physical therapy and ice.
