Fitness Tip: BMI vs. body fat percentage

Body Mass Index (BMI) uses only two factors: height and weight. Using those two factors in specific equation, a BMI is figured. Body fat percentage is figured differently and measures the percent of a person’s weight that is considered fat; the rest is considered lean mass.

These are not the same figures. The body fat percentage would be a more accurate number, since BMI doesn’t figure how much of your body weight is from muscle or fat. Both BMI and body fat percentage have a range of numbers that differ between men and women and determine whether you are in a healthy weight range.
