Fitness Tip: Benefit of strength training

Many of us have heard the importance of cardiovascular exercise, but do we all understand the benefits of strength training, especially as we get older?

Strength training is performing any resistance exercise, working a specific muscle or muscle group. Resistance can be in the form of weights, bands, or your own body weight.

Strength training can increase muscle mass, decrease muscle loss, increase bone density, increase joint flexibility, reduce pain, enhance appearance, improve balance, improve your mood and improve glucose metabolism, blood pressure, body composition, muscle endurance and even insulin sensitivity.

Perform each exercise slowly in order to use muscle and not momentum, drink plenty of water and don’t forget to warm up before and cool down after your workout.
