Fire destroys tractor

No one injured in small blaze

Craig Fire/Rescue crews responded to a small tractor fire on Moffat County Road 31 on Friday morning.

The fire destroyed a Ford 9N tractor. No one was injured.

Kelly Haynes owns the tractor and also the home near the intersection of Moffat County roads 7 and 31. He said he tried to start the tractor Friday morning at about 11 a.m. when it caught fire.

The freezing temperatures likely cracked part of the engine, causing fuel to leak, Haynes said.

When Haynes started the tractor, the fuel ignited, he said.

Haynes tried to put out the fire on his own, but when the tires caught fire, he couldn’t control it, he said. He then called the fire department.

Haynes has had the tractor, which is from the early 1950s, for three years.

The fire destroyed the tractor, Haynes said.
