Fire burns house, other buildings near Whitman Park in Grand Junction
Whitman Park evacuated as blaze damages or destroys five structures
GRAND JUNCTION — Firefighters responded to a fire that consumed four structures west of Whitman Park Sunday night and damaged another property.
Crews responded to the blaze, which was initially reported at 6:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Fourth Street, according to Grand Junction Fire Department spokesman Dirk Clingman. It was initially confined to a shed, then spread to a power pole.
Firefighters arrived within minutes of the report and worked in shifts to battle the blaze, which took hours to fully extinguish. At one point, the fire department used a ladder truck to spray water on the fire from above in an aerial attempt to extinguish the flames.
