Faith Column: ‘You are the God that sees me’
Faith Column
A little girl and her mom were on the subway in New York City, among a crowd of other people. Suddenly, the little girl discovered that she had lost sight of her mom. In a panicked voice, she called out, “Mom, I can’t see you! Are you still here?”
The mom answered immediately and confidently — “I know you can’t see me right now sweetheart, but I can see you. I promise I will not let you out of my sight.”
The little girl relaxed because she was reassured that the one, she trusted the most in this world, had her safely in her sight.
This story gives us a picture of how our patient and loving heavenly father offers us reassurance through his word, that we are never out of his sight. He will always hear our cries for help.
In Genesis 16:13 we read about a woman named Hagar who was in distress and running from her masters. And the Lord saw her! When the Lord met her in her distress, Hagar said, “You are the God who sees me.”
She found that the eye of a merciful God had been upon her in all her wondering and afflictions. Hagar, like so many do, prayed in her distress — “Have I not also called on the one that seeth me?”
In Luke 1:46, the Christmas story of Jesus’ birth, Mary said, “how I rejoice in God my savior. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for he hath visited and redeemed his people; his mercy goes on from generation to generation.”
In Luke 2:7 when Jesus was born, the angel of the Lord came to the shepherds by night and said, “Fear not, for behold I will bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be for all the people. For unto you is born in the city of David a savior which is Christ the Lord.” Making possible eternal life with him in heaven.
We want to draw attention from the Bible, what our heavenly father knows about us.
1. He sees all things: “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Proverbs 15:3
“Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight; but all things are naked and open unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” Hebrews 4:13
2. He knows mankind: “For the Lord seeth not as a man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7b
3. He knows our thoughts: “O Lord, thou hast searched me and known me, thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thoughts afar off.” Psalm 139:1-2
4. He knows our deeds — “The wicked worketh a deceitful work; but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.” Proverbs 11:18
“For God is not unrighteous to forget our work and labour of love, which ye have showed toward his name.” Hebrews 6:10a
5. He knows the true depth of our devotion to him — “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong on behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9
“He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be loved of my father and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:21
Oh, friend, what an incentive to love the Lord! “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.” Isaiah 55:6
May the sincerity of our hearts be our goal for the years we have left to live.
