Faith Column: The Lord is my strength
Faith Column
Ex. 15:2 — “The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.”
The Hebrew word for strength is “az zi” means His mighty power within.
When I was a young boy, there was a TV show that I loved watching. Its intro said this: “Faster than a speeding bullet; more powerful than a locomotive; able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! Look, up in the sky; it’s a bird, it’s a plane; it’s Superman!”
I often wondered what it would be like to have the powers of this mythical being. And then I began to realize that there is a much greater power. I began to meditate on this verse and realize that all of God’s strength is resident within me. It is not my power, it is His; a power greater than any other power, ever. I cannot manifest this power from my own accord, but because He has made His home within my being.
That is what Paul meant when he said in Phil. 4:13, I can do all things through Christ Who give me strength.
The Hebrew word for song, “zim rah,” means a beautiful melody of praise. There are very few things as powerful as a song of praise.
Music has the ability to take us into the presence of the Father through worship. I still remember to this day when I was at a conference in the Dallas Civic Center. There were approximately 15,000 people in attendance and the leader of the conference walked out on the platform and just began to sing “How Great Thou Art” a cappella.
Before long, the whole colosseum was singing, and tears began flooding my eyes and my heart was overcome with joy. Someday soon, we will gather with all the saints of glory and lift continual praise to the One Who has given His all for us.
Dear Lord, You are our strength and our song. You are a very present help in times of trouble. We look to You for Your strength, for when we are weak, then we become strong. Thank You Lord, In Jesus Name, Amen.
