Faith Column: Deal with today’s issues to enjoy the future
We are in charge of our own happienss
Ephesians 4:26 — Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil.
What I feel this scripture means in a simple way is “handle today’s difficulties today” no matter if it is in marriage or in life. Don’t allow the problems of today to affect tomorrow. Handle the issues today so you don’t have to wade through them tomorrow.
So many times we sweep them under the rug and try to forget about them and the problem with doing that is one day you are going to have to move the rug.
In marriage it happens all the time. Have you ever got into a fight with your spouse and found out later that what started the fight really wasn’t what they were mad about but it was a lot BIGGER than you thought. What happens is our spouse does something or says something that upsets and we don’t say anything but we don’t forget about it either. Then one day we have a whole arsenal built and one small thing gets us upset and we blow up. Then we bring up things that happened a long time ago. (Don’t act like you haven’t done this lol.)
When we hold on to situations it:
• Hurt feelings become bitter feelings
• Misunderstandings become wars
• Miscommunication turns into brokenness
There is freedom in handling today’s difficulties today. To many people are controlled by yesterday’s problems, hurts and misunderstandings.
Song of Solomon 2:15 —Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
Most of us are good at protecting ourselves from the big bombs of sin. We know that the big things in life are not going to kill us because we have protected ourselves from those big things in life.
The problem is the bible tells us that the small foxes spoil the vine. It is not the big issues in life that bring you down but it is the everyday struggle of life that wears you down to the point of wanting to throw in the towel.
It is not one thing that is trying to take you out because the enemy knows that you are protecting yourself from the big things so he begins to weigh you down with a bunch of little things.
Handle today’s difficulties today so you are not going to be weighed down by a bunch of little things. I am convinced today that if you fix your issue you can save your future. Fix today’s issues today and fix your future. Our desire is to be future pulled NOT past possessed.
