Extension connection: My favorite things
Craig — If you haven’t made it to the Moffat County fair this year, be sure to do so this final weekend.
Along with the traditional animals and shows, great food, 4-H and open class exhibits, live music, games and booths, be sure not to miss some of my favorite things happening at this year’s fair:
* The annual Canned Food-Drive BINGO is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the fairgrounds covered picnic shelter. Each two cans of food you bring are good for one BINGO card. Prizes for 12 games have been donated by local businesses. Food and/or donations will be given to the Interfaith Food Bank. To make things really exciting, Elaine Sullivan provides free root beer floats in conjunction with this annual canned food drive event.
• The first annual Moffat County Fair Disc Golf Tournament will be held at the fairgrounds from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. A nine-hole course will be set up in the grandstand arena. Cost is $5 per player. Cash prizes will be awarded in youth, men’s and women’s divisions. Bring your own disc, if available. There will be a few loaner discs if you don’t have your own.
• Enter your best fresh fruit or vegetable salsa in the Moffat County Fair Salsa Contest from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Pavilion. Judging begins at approximately 2 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and third place in each category. The public is invited to sample all the salsas following the contest (And in case you didn’t already know, the open class wines and beers are judged and sampled prior to the salsa contest in the same location, so come early).
• Vouchers for free radon test kits will be available under the grandstands at the Colorado State University Extension radon display. These can be redeemed at the Extension Office, 539 Barclay Street, anytime after Oct. 1. The 4-H exhibits are also under the grandstands, along with informational booths of several local non-profit agencies and businesses.
Hope to see you at the fair.
