Craig resident Elmer G. Humphrey Sr. died Jan. 16, 2002, at The Memorial Hospital. He was 69.

Humphrey was born Nov. 26, 1933, in Akron, Colo., to Frank E. and Mary (Davisson) Humphrey. He was raised and attended school in Akron and Woodrow, Colo., graduating from Woodrow High School. He married Daisy Blake in 1955 and they had a daughter, Pamela.

Humphrey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He and Daisy were later divorced and in 1963 or 1964, he married Phyllis Doyle and shortly thereafter moved to Craig.

To this union, a son, Elmer Jr., was born.

In 1972, Humphrey and Fred Teter purchased an auto parts store from Walt Cisar and the store became known as T&H Auto Parts. He ran that business until selling it in 1978 to Jim Downing.

Humphrey worked at the store off and on until his retirement in 1998. He and Phyllis were divorced and on Feb. 28, 1989, he married Linda (Timmons) Nelson in Wendover, Nev. They were married until her death in 1997.

Humphrey was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed fishing, hunting the outdoors, traveling and being with his family.

In his early years, he worked in the oil fields. He has been in the auto parts business most of his life.

Humphrey is survived by his daughter, Pamela Hastings, of Canon City, Colo.; son, Elmer G. (Debbie) Humphrey Jr., of Aurora, Colo.; stepdaughters, Terry (Chuck) Crouse, of Craig, Gaynell (Jake) Olsen, of Craig, Sondra (Kenneth) Dobner, of Craig, Lisa Nelson, of Denver, and Sheila Glaze, of Florida; stepsons, Thane (Yvonne) Bacon, of Hamilton, Colo., and Richard (Janet) Bacon, of Salem, Utah; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a brother, Edward (Barbara) Humphrey, of Wray, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, Marshal and his wife, Linda.

Services were Jan. 21, 2003, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth Purdum and officers of VFW Post No. 4265 officiating.

Selections were “Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me.”

Honorary pallbearers were John Ponikvar, Dave Hastings, Ken Solomon, Fred Teter, Larry Anson, Walt Cisar and Ken Mansfield.

Services concluded at the mortuary.
