Edward A. Wilkinson: CPW’s interests

How ironic that the CPW has articles in the paper about leaving young wild animals alone. They say the mothers are probably nearby and will come back to them. They also say that Mother Nature takes care of her own, and we shouldn’t meddle in her business. Then, in other articles, they tell about shocking all non-native fish out of the lake and river to protect the endangered fish, which might become extinct anyway, so are we to believe that we are not qualified to mess with Mother Nature, but CPW is? Thirty years ago, the CPW did not have the funding to pursue these programs. So, where are they getting the money now? Do you suppose the search and rescue money slated for the counties of Colorado is funding this? The county budgets are not going broke on search and rescue anymore, because most people have cell phones, GPS, etc. But, the search and rescue fee still comes from our fishing and hunting licenses. And, regardless of what CPW says, the story has been going around for a long time about how the “non-native” fish got into the river in the first place. How the CPW fish stocking truck had their aerator break down and instead of letting fish die, backed up to the river and dumped the pike. What happened to the old division of wildlife officers that knew conservation and knew this country, the people and knew that the environments change and adapted to it instead of trying to change it!
