Moffat County Homecoming to feature Barbie theme
Blue and white is the prominent color palette for most Moffat County activities, but another color will be the highlight for the next week.
MCHS Homecoming takes place in the coming week with the theme “Create Your Own World” inspired by the summer blockbuster “Barbie.”
The idea was solidified in late August by MCHS student council. While there were multiple suggestions, including the Roaring ’20s, ancient Greece and more, president Ruby Short made the case that a Barbie theme is most relevant thanks to the movie’s popularity.
Also, the film’s main character’s versatility has been on display for years with multiple personas ranging from cowgirl to doctor to teacher.
“The theme of ‘Create Your Own World’ connects with the initiative that ‘Every Student will Graduate,’ and creating one’s own future with a sense of bright colors and optimism,” said student council adviser Brian Powell.
Guidance counselor Aliceson Jones added that while the franchise has traditionally been aimed at girls, the idea is to have a theme that all can enjoy.
“With the Barbie movie creating a rise of popularity this year, students are able to relate to it and create an infinite amount of dress-up days, which makes it not only a theme students can connect too, but a theme that is easy,” she said.
The traditional Homecoming activities will take place, including Powder Puff Football, Macho Volleyball, a bonfire, community parade and dance for students, as well as athletic events with a pink theme.
