EDP leader picking up where past directors left off

Tim Gibbs is finding his bearings as the new director of the Craig/Moffat County Economic Development Partnership.

Gibbs said he has had the chance to show officials interested in Craig as a potential site for their business around town.

“It’s good for the public to know that we’re getting activity,” Gibbs said at the EDP’s regular meeting Wednesday at the Holiday Inn.

The EDP had been without a director for months, after the departure of the group’s second director, Tom Flavin.

But EDP members said that doesn’t mean the group is starting over in its mission to help lure new businesses and improve productivity of current businesses. A meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Holiday Inn aims to gather representatives from nonprofits to determine whether the area’s needs are being met or whether groups’ missions overlap.

“It’s an exercise that may force the boards to look at what they do,” said board president Scott Cook. “Maybe there are some things that are slipping through our hands. We’re hoping we can decide who will do what and specialize so we can be more effective.”

Representatives from several groups agreed to attend today’s meeting, but not all invited are scheduled to show, EDP members said.

Board member Georgina McAnally said the meeting is important to gauge how the pro-business group fits in with other groups.

“I think we want to know what direction we want to go,” McAnally said. “We don’t want to have duplication.”
