Economic workshop set

Guest author

The Craig Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee will hold its first public workshop for the Craig target industry analysis (TIA) project from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the City Council chambers at City Hall.

The workshop is designed for Craig residents and business owners to share ideas on economic future of Craig.

The target industry analysis is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, City of Craig and Moffat County. Its purpose is to identify types of businesses that might be encouraged to locate in Craig and diversify the economy over the next 10 years. The project will also provide a detailed action plan for how to attract and grow those businesses.

“This project is designed to give us a blueprint to shape our economy in the coming years,” said Mitch Bettis, committee chairman. “We believe that it is critical for Craig to be putting its best face forward when dealing with expanding and relocating businesses. Craig has many benefits to offer businesses, but we do have some challenges to overcome first.”

Project consultant John Whiteman, of Whiteman & Taintor, a Colorado consulting firm, will facilitate the meeting.

“People who come to the workshop will get an overview of where the economy is today and what lies on the horizon,” Whiteman said. “From there we will review some of the specific options for growth and change. This is a real chance for residents and business owners to roll up their sleeves and think carefully about what Craig should be like in 10 to 20 years. These ideas will directly shape the economic targeting program.”
