With more than 10 samples of chocolate available during Saturday’s Taste of Chocolate, Nadine Daszkiewicz said there’s no shortage of sweets.

“That’s a lot of chocolate,” The Kitchen Shop owner said. “I think we should have EMTs standing by for sugar overdoses.”

But, she said that’s all part of the fun that’s included in the 16th annual Art Walk and the fifth annual Taste of Chocolate in downtown Craig this weekend. The event is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at various businesses in downtown Craig.

“It’s fun just to walk around and visit with people,” said Kandee Dilldine, owner of KS Kreations. “We have a lot of people who will just stand in a store and visit with people that they haven’t seen all winter.

“It’s really all about the art and seeing what your neighbors do with their time and their creativity.”

Those displays will include a variety of artwork including jewelry, oil and watercolor paintings, wooden boxes, photography and quilts.

“There’s quite a mix of media there,” Dilldine said.

In addition, the Colorado Northwestern Community College’s ceramics program will host its annual Soup Bowl Supper at the Museum of Northwest Colorado, 590 Yampa Ave., during Art Walk.

Community members can buy bowls and mugs with their choice of soup for between $6 and $10, depending on the style of bowl. The proceeds from the sales benefit the program.

A silent auction and “pick a pot” fundraiser will benefit Love In the Name of Christ of the Yampa Valley. In the “pick a pot,” attendees can enter to win their favorite piece for $2.

After the soup bowl supper, community members can enjoy dessert by participating in the Taste of Chocolate for $10. Ticket holders can sample chocolates by local bakers and then vote for their favorite.

Last year’s Taste of Chocolate sold out before the event, so this year 125 tickets are being sold, up from 100 in years past.

Despite the increase, Daszkiewicz recommends getting tickets in advance from The Kitchen Shop, 577 Yampa Ave.

Dilldine emphasized that while the Taste of Chocolate and Soup Bowl Dinner come with a fee, there is no cost to go into businesses to view artwork.

“People are welcome to come down and wander around,” she said.

As of Monday, organizers have signed up 11 artists and 10 chocolate makers. But, they anticipate more enrolling by Saturday.
