Dorothy Ellen Wiseman

Dorothy Ellen Wiseman died Nov. 2, 2002, at Valley View Manor. She was 94.

Wiseman was born July 14, 1908, in Ackers, Mo. Her father, L.C. Herod, moved the family to Craig about 1910 and homesteaded on the Elkhead east of Craig when Wiseman was only two years old. She grew up and went to school in Craig and at the Elkhead school.

In 1923, she married Steven Hockenhull. They had six children, Robert and his younger brother were born in Craig, one boy and one girl were born in Maybell, the oldest girl was born in Utah and the youngest girl was born in Texas.

Steven died in 1965. Wiseman married again in 1968 to Fred Wiseman of Craig.

He died in about 1981 and Wiseman never remarried.

She is survived by two of her six children, Robert Hockenhull and Dorothy Grace MacDonald, both of California; three brothers, George and Dick Herod of Colorado and Walter Herod, of Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and their children and numerous relatives in the Craig area.

Memorial services were Nov. 11, 2002 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Craig.

Memorial donations may be made to the Craig VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
