Dorothy Coon

Dorothy Coon died Jan. 14, 2006, at Mantey Heights Rehab and Care Centre in Grand Junction. Her family was by her side. She was 85.

Coon was born to Marshall Jones and Lillian Jones (Hunt) Santer on Sept. 30, 1920, in Denver.

Coon spent her childhood in Denver and El Monte, Calif.

She married Orba C. Coon on August 21, 1937, in Los Angeles. He preceded her in death Jan. 28, 1988.

Coon moved to Grand Junction in 1948 and attended Mesa College, where she received nurse training. She worked for St. Mary’s Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1985.

She enjoyed her faith and doll repair.

Her family and friends say she will be remembered for her caring spirit given to anyone in need and for always having time to listen and be a friend.

She was especially proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters Patricia L. (Delmar) Coyner of Craig and Sharon L. (Philip) Armour of Mack; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Coon was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son and two granddaughters.

At her request, there will be no public services. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506 and/or Mantey Heights Rehab and Care Centre, 2825 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, CO 81502
