Do the right thing inexpensively

Name: Jack Virden
Name of business/address: Jack’s Bumpers, 350 Russell St.

What prompted you to open your business in Craig?
I started in 1970 just to make a living.
How did you get into your line of business? I was a commercial pilot, nearly starving, and was looking for some way to make money.
Describe your philosophy of being a good businessman. Do the right thing and don’t charge too much.
How do you define the role of your business in the community? We’re offering something that protects trucks from the antelope, deer and elk that can’t seem to stay off the road.
What’s the best part of your job? Having enough help to do the work so I can go golfing.
What’s the most challenging part of your job? Getting things organized so I can play golf and keeping up with the body changes on new trucks.
What advice would you give to someone opening his or her own business? They should expect lean times in the beginning. They should plan to put in a lot of hours. They should do a good job, offer a good product and charge a fair price.
