Derek Willshire and Kody Fox: 4-H members thank community

— To the editor:

We are writing this letter for two reasons. First, we would like our community to know how well we represented our state at the National 4-H Shooting Invitational; and second, we would like to thank all those that supported us.

During the week of June 25 to 29, we traveled to Rapid City, S.D., to attend the competition. We were awarded this opportunity by being in the top four shooters at the Colorado State Fair last year. The other two shooters on our team were from the eastern slope. There were three events and as a team we placed fifth in the Three Position event. This fifth place was out of 32 states represented at the competition.

We enjoyed our experience as National 4-H shooters. We are grateful to the organizations and individuals that supported us and helped us get to the Invitational. We are the fourth and fifth members of Moffat County Shooters to make a national team in the last four years. This speaks volumes about the quality of 4-H leaders and coaches. We would like to thank Coaches Jody and Red Lee, Bob Aaberg, Steve and Robin Sloan, Andy Bullen; as well as the parents that stepped in when assistance was needed. We are grateful to Alisa Comstock for all her help. We also thank Austin Bloomquist, last year’s Nationalist, for the help in preparing us for the competition.

To be able to represent the state of Colorado was an honor for us. Many organizations realized this and generously supported us. Special thanks go to: The 4-H Foundation, Bears Ears Shooting Range, the men and women at The VFW, Cromer Contracting, and Western Slope Truss. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

We found the competition at the National level to be extremely tough. We were honored to shoot against such great competitors and please to be ranked among them. Thank you to every one that made it possible.
