Department of Justice seizes files from local physician
Law enforcement action was taken earlier this week against a local doctor, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release issued Thursday.
Dr. Joel Miller, D.O., operates High Country Medical at 535 Yampa Ave., in Craig.
During a search, authorities seized patient files, according to the release. Miller was seeing patients as of Thursday and confirmed the action at his office took place Tuesday.
“What they (authorities) said when they left was that they were sorry they had to do that and would issue me an apology,” Miller said. “I’m just waiting for them to apologize.”
Miller would not confirm whether authorities seized patient files during Tuesday’s search.
“Maybe they did and maybe they didn’t,” he said.
Local residents interested in learning if their medical records were among those confiscated from Miller’s office need to file a request through their health care provider pursuant to patient privacy regulations, according to the release. To obtain a copy of records, call the Moffat County Public Safety Center at 826-2323, ext. 3372.
Department of Justice officials said they’re unable to release more information because the case is an ongoing investigation.
