1 to 3 p.m. Moffat County High School will host a freshman orientation. Students will pick up schedules, find lockers and classrooms and meet teachers. All freshmen are encouraged to attend.

A ranch horse competition and clinic will be held as part of the Routt County fair on Friday and Saturday at the Fairgrounds in Hayden. The clinic costs $45. Call 879-5214.

The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials will be from Sept. 7 to 11 in Meeker. There will be a craft fair, art contest, barbecue and other activities. Tickets will be sold only at the gate. A five-day pass for adults is $30; children ages 8-16, $15; one-day pass for adults, $10; children ages 8-16, $5. Those younger than 8 get in free. No pets are allowed.
