Darlene Harmer: Reduced night speed limit isn’t working

To the editor:

I would like to respond to the article and headline of Feb. 8 about the 55-mph night speed limit on Colorado Highway 13.

It isn’t working. Maybe there are fewer reported accidents, but what about all the unreported ones. I travel Colo. 13 from Craig to Rifle and back nearly every day, and it is a very rare day to not see three to 10 freshly killed deer or elk on my run.

Part of the problem is that there is very little Patrol presence out there, and at night it’s almost nonexistent.

Maybe officers should change their patrol routine. Also, drivers slow down and pay attention. Most of these collisions are totally unnecessary.
