Craig Billiards Congress of America Pool Leagues, played at The Popular Bar, has finished up its sixth season of billiards leagues here in Craig. Leagues start in September and last eight months.

In May, a City Championship event is held and the team who wins the event gains the opportunity to play in the BCAPL National Championships. The BCAPL National Championships is held each July in Las Vegas and has been dubbed “The Greatest Pool Tournament in the World!” With more than 30 divisions, 300 pool tables, 50 exhibitors and professional events, there is something for everyone!

This year marked the 27th year Roy Butler has been playing league pool in Craig. Roy and his team have been trying to make it to Vegas Nationals for all those years, and this year that dream has become a reality.

Roy’s 8-ball team, named Git-R-Done, has been victorious in winning the 2014-2015 season City Championships. Roy Butler, Clettus Daus, John Aldridge, Bill Conn, Kevin Sauer, Bill Schukar, and James Merett make up the original team who will be headed to Las Vegas July 29. The team has chosen two alternatives to travel with them, Kim Griffin and Michael Lausin.

The success story doesn’t stop there, not only did Roy’s 8-ball team win this year, his 9-Ball team Poke-n-Hope also won in their City Championship event! What an amazing accomplishment for Roy and his team. 9-Ball players headed to Vegas are Roy Butler, Clettus Daus, Bill Schukar, Amber Kawcak, and Lisa Molison. The alternatives traveling with this team are also Kim Griffin and Michael Lausin.

8-Ball leagues consist of five man teams; we play a round robin handicap system on Monday nights. Each player plays four different people from the opposite team. Each ball pocketed gains your team points, and winning the game gains you an additional three points. 9-Ball is played on Sundays and consists of three man teams. No handicap system is used for this style of league play but you do play each opponent three games with each win giving your team one point. The 2015-2016 seasons will begin in September if you’re interested in playing pool please see the website,, to keep up to date on information or see Roy at The Popular Bar.

Good luck in Las Vegas, Git-R-Done and Poke-n-Hope!
