Craig youth wrestlers chew up competition in Hayden

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

Moffat County Youth Wrestling's Jim Neal nears a win during Saturday's Hayden Peewee Wrestling Tournament. Neal was one of 17 Craig wrestlers to win first place at the event. MCYW will host its home event, the Levi Weber Memorial Youth Tournament, this weekend at Moffat County High School.

The week between their home events was no day off for members of Craig's two youth wrestling teams.

With about two dozen teams visiting Hayden for the day and some weight classes so full they required multiple brackets, Craig's groups did well, 17 champions between them — some taking five straight pins during the tourney — and even more second- and third-place finishers.

The season will continue at home this weekend as teams return to Moffat County High School Saturday for the Levi Weber Memorial Youth Tournament, organized by MCYW, 16 teams already signed up and ready for action.

Weigh-ins will start for ages 8 and younger at 6:30 a.m., with matches beginning at 9 a.m. The 10U, 12U and 14U athletes can weigh in early or at 11 a.m., matches starting at 1 p.m.
