Craig woman still in critical condition
September 22, 1999
Tatum Hart, 19, remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU) at St. Mary’s Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, Colo., after suffering severe injuries in a one-vehicle accident near Pueblo on Interstate 25.
Tatum entered the hospital unconscious on Sept. 14 after her Ford Probe rolled across the roadway.
According to her mom, Phyllis Hart, Tatum was able to move her arms, legs, eyelids and eyes, but due to increasing cranial pressure, she has been put on medication to keep her in an induced coma. Any thought process will cause her cranium to expand and for now, Tatum needs to keep stable levels so her brain will heal faster. While on the medication, she is unable to move any body parts. She will remain in the drug-induced coma for at least the next three days.
According to Phyllis, as of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Tatum is in critical but stable condition.
Tatum’s original injuries include minor scratches and road rash to the top of her shoulders and one arm and a scratch on her face. Another injury critical to her recovery is a missing part of her skull, the size of a dollar bill, between her ear and temple. With the help of plastic surgery, this area is quickly becoming unnoticeable. Despite the injuries she received, Phyllis is seeing great improvements in Tatum.
“Her outside is perfect,” Phyllis said. “All of her scratches are healing.”
