Craig sports briefs for Nov. 29, 2013: Git R Done extends lead in Craig BCA

— The Craig Billiards Congress of America pool league standings have been updated through 10 weeks of play.

Team Git R Done pushed its lead to its largest margin of the season, now with 1,656 points to One Eyed Bandits’ 1,617. Odd Ballz is nearby in third place with 1,600 points.

No Ex-Cue-Ses still sits in fourth place at 1,579 points and extended its lead on fifth place Uh-Oh slightly in the past week. Uh-Oh is at 1,565 points, 14 behind after being just four behind a week ago.

Out 4 Blood has fallen off the pace and sits at 1,483 so far.

There will be no pool played Monday because of the holidays.

BCA’s Sunday league was canceled at the fall start, but the league is planning on restarting at 5 p.m. Dec. 8 with enough interest.

On Dec. 7, BCA will have a Bring a Friend Tournament, in which current members can bring nonmembers to play.

Snake River basketball teams earn top-5 preseason rankings

The Little Snake River Valley School basketball teams begin their season in less than a month, and despite losing talented players, each have high hopes for the coming 1A basketball season.

The boys team, coming off its third consecutive Wyoming state championship, is rated fourth in the state in the poll of voters on Similar to their football season, the Rattlers are looking to fill the voids left by top performers lost to graduation in each of the past two seasons.

Burlington High School is the overwhelming favorite entering the season, according to voters. Snake River beat Burlington, 51-49, in the state semifinals last season.

The girls team, coming off a 15-11 season and fourth-place finish in the state last year, was picked as the third-best team in the state for the 2013-14 preseason. Lingle Fort-Laramie, the state runner-up from last season that beat the Rattlers, 51-49, in the state semis, is No. 1 in the poll.

Snake River’s season begins Dec. 19 vs. Rangely.

No open gym basketball at CMS during holidays

Craig Parks and Recreation hosts open gym basketball during the winter at Craig Middle School.

Pickup games and shoot-arounds are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Feb. 13. Anyone 15 and older is welcome to attend. Those interested can purchase a punch pass or pay a gym fee of $2.50 to supervisors each night they attend.

There will not be open gyms during the school district holidays. After no basketball on Thanksgiving Thursday, open gyms will continue as scheduled until winter break.

Lifeguard training coming up during winter break

Teens or adults looking to be lifeguards during the summer at the pool, or during water events during the school year, can get certified this winter break through Craig Parks and Recreation.

Those interested must be at least 15 years old and must pass a swim test before the course. The swim test will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10, and the lifeguard classes will begin during the school district’s winter break.

Registration will close Dec. 10, once the swim test date passes. The fee is $125. For more information, call Parks and Rec at 970-826-2017.
