Moffat County High School football will begin its summer program this week, handing out equipment Monday and Tuesday and running a skills camp in the evenings starting Tuesday. Players will also be able to participate in multiple tournaments over the summer.

Moffat County High School football team will be hosting its summer program this week, with evening skills sessions starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday and running through June 11, which is scheduled to culminate in a full scrimmage with Alameda.

Incoming seniors, juniors and sophomores should pick up their gear from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, while incoming freshmen or anyone unable to get equipment earlier can get fitted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the MCHS gym, 900 Finley Lane.

The MCHS weight room will be open for the summer starting Tuesday as well, from 5 to 9 a.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 12.

Additional camps will include 7 v. 7 events through Colorado School of Mines, Alameda, Colorado Mesa University and the Denver Broncos as the season continues. A Midnight Madness event will begin two-a-day practices in August at 12:01 a.m. to ensure the Bulldogs start the minute they are allowed for the fall, with the first game scheduled for Aug. 26 in Rawlins, Wyoming.

Basketball camp starts Tuesday

Progressive Basketball Academy will host a camp for the third consecutive year for athletes entering grades two through nine for the 2016-17 school year.

Sessions run this week, from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdayand Thursday at Moffat County High School, 900 Finley Lane.

Experienced coaches with PBA, as well as MCHS varsity hoopsters and coaches, will work on facets of the game with players ranging from dribbling, shooting, passing and rebounding to teamwork, competitiveness and listening skills.

Registration is $125 per player, with discounts available for families with multiple children. Players will receive a t-shirt and wristband and need to bring with them a ball and a water bottle.

Yampa Valley Golf Course offers PGA kids clinic

Boys and girls ages 5 to 7 will have courses at 9 a.m., ages 8 to 10 at 10:30 a.m., and ages 11 and older will start at noon.

The cost is $75 per child, and parents are asked to provide golfers with sunscreen and water bottles each day. YVGC can provide clubs if necessary for golfers.

$25,000 prize possible in TMH Foundation golf tourney

The Memorial Hospital Foundation's 16th annual golf tournament will take place at Yampa Valley Golf Course June 10. Check-in time is 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon.

Registration is $60 per person or $240 per team for the four-person team scramble and includes 18 holes, carts and food, as well as the opportunity to win prizes.

YVGC's seventh hole will feature a hole-in-one prize of $25,000 sponsored by Justin Kawcak and 360 Insurance Company, while the course's other Par 3 holes will include packages such as electronics, Titleist gear and a Bahamas cruise for a single-stroke score.

Other prizes include Spree Bucks for gross and net scores, as well as contests for straightest drive and closest to the pin.

Proceeds will benefit TMH Foundation.

Moffat County cheerleaders offer free clinic

The Moffat County Thunder Cheer team will host a free clinic June 27 through July 1 at Suite 119 of Centennial Mall, 1111 W. Victory Way.

Registration will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. June 27 with sessions from 5 to 7 p.m. each day.

Girls and boys who participate will learn basic cheer and tumbling techniques and will perform with the team in the Fourth of July parade. Parents need to sign a liability waiver before their child participates.
