Craig Sports Briefs for June 8, 2015: Yampa Valley Golf Course hosting PGA Academy for kids
Yampa Valley Golf Course’s Junior Golf PGA Sports Academy begins this week, running for six weeks each Tuesday.
The course is open to young golfers of all skill levels from ages 6 to 17. Sessions will begin at 9 a.m. for ages 6 to 8; 10:30 a.m. for ages 9, 10 and 11; and noon for ages 12 and older.
Players will learn all aspects of the sport based on a PGA-approved curriculum. The classes end with the Soda Pop Open July 14, complete with a barbecue and prizes.
Registration is $75 for the program’s classes, gift bag and end-of-season festivities. YVGC can provide equipment for participants if needed.

British Soccer Camp coming to Craig
Registration is open for Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp, available to youth athletes of all ages looking to improve their skills from a program that works with kids across the United States and Canada.
The camp takes place July 6 to 10 at Woodbury Sports Complex. Programs include First Kicks, Mini Soccer, Half Day and the extra seminar Golden Goal Camp, an add-on to those who sign up for Half Day.
Program — Age(s), time, cost
First Kicks — 3, 11 a.m. to noon, $86
Mini Soccer — 4 to 5, 10:30 a.m. to noon, $102
Half Day — 6 to 16, 9 a.m. to noon, $129
Golden Goal Camp — 8 to 16, 1 to 3 p.m., $48
Registration is available at challengersports.com, with a June 26 deadline. Parents also can register the day of the event with a $10 late fee.

Summer Cheer Camp begins in July
Registration is open for Summer Cheer Camp, a program for girls in first- through sixth-grade to learn more about the sport of cheerleading.
Sessions will be available twice weekly starting July 20 as participants learn hip-hop choreography routines and cheering chants, which they will employ during the Doak Walker football games and the Moffat County High School Homecoming halftime show in the fall.
Cheerleaders will also learn responsibility, make friends and, most importantly, have fun.
The cost is $60, and the deadline to register at Craig Parks & Recreation, 300 W. Fourth St., is July 15. Late entries may be accepted but will include a $10 fee.
