The annual Cast ‘N Blast event, promoting fishing, shooting and archery, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16 at Wyman Living History Museum, 94350 E. US Highway 40, as sponsored by Colorado Parks and WildlifeColorado Parks and Wildlife, Northwest Colorado Outfitters Chapter, Colorado Mule Deer Association and the Yampa Valley Chapter of Safari Club International., Northwest Colorado Outfitters Chapter, Colorado Mule Deer Association and the Yampa Valley Chapter of Safari Club International.

“It’s a great opportunity for an entire family, from young kids to moms and dads, to learn about these popular outdoor activities together,” said CPW District Wildlife Manager Mike Swaro, of Maybell, in a news release for the event.

All angling equipment will be available free of charge, however participants can bring their own fishing equipment if they prefer. Firearms and archery equipment will be provided and participants are asked not to bring their own.

A free lunch will also be served. For protection from the elements, everyone is reminded to bring layers of clothing, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Anyone 16 and older must have a current fishing license to participate in any fishing event.

Yampa Valley Golf Course and Mulligan’s Bar & Grill will host the Feast of Italy Fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Sunday at YVGC, 2179 Highway 394.

The day will be a showcase of the menu for Mulligan’s sister restaurant, Carelli’s with a full lunch menu, including a lasagna special.

Proceeds will go toward funding capital improvements for the golf course.

Gymkhana series open to young horseback riders

The 2016 Northwest Colorado Gymkhana Series takes place Wednesday nights at Moffat County Fairgrounds, 640 E. Victory Way, running through Aug. 17.

The weekly is open to age groups ranging from 4 and younger to 19 and older, with entries starting at 5:30 p.m. and riders beginning at 6 p.m. and including barrel racing poles and flags.

Each event costs $5 to enter with payouts for those under 19. A $35 membership and a minimum eight weeks participation is required for year-end prizes.

CNCC soccer program hosting July 16 open tryouts

Doak Walker fall football seeks signups

Teams are open to boys and girls in grades three through six, with equal participation, skill development and fun emphasized.

Parks & Rec will host a mandatory skills day, weigh-in and equipment checkout July 20 at Moffat County High School, 900 Finley Lane, with third- and fourth-graders at 4 p.m. and fifth- and sixth-graders at 5:30 p.m.

Registration is $60, with a July 20 deadline.

Forms, including a medical consent waiver, are available at 300 W. Fourth St.

Cheer camp starts July 18

Craig Parks & Recreation will host a cheer camp Mondays and Thursdays for participants in first- through sixth grade who would like to cheer during Doak Walker football games in the fall.

Practices begin July 18, and cheerleaders will learn chants and dance routines, as well learning responsibility and making friends.

Registration is $60. Forms are available at 300 W. Fourth St.

CNCC volleyball camp offered July 27, 28

The Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartan Volleyball Camp takes place July 27, 28 at the school’s Rangely campus.

The event includes two separate clinics, either at a cost of $65 for one or $120 for both. Individual skills camp runs from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and is for beginners and intermediate players ages 8 to 18. Skills include passing, setting, serving, blocking and other fundamentals.

Specialty camp is 5 to 8:30 p.m. for intermediate and advanced athletes ages 12 to 18 and features specific training for positions in hitting, sets and defense.

The camp is open to boys and girls.
