Craig Sports Briefs for July 26, 2013: Moffat County High School physicals at end of July at TMH clinic

Athletes who still need to get a physical in order to play sports in the coming school year can do so for cheap at The Memorial Hospital Clinic coming up.

TMH Clinic, 785 Russell St., will offer physicals from 5 to 7 p.m. July 30 for $15. All athletes must have a physical completed before they are allowed to practice. The physicals are available for high school and middle school students.

High school boys golf practice begins Aug. 5, and the rest of high school fall sports begin Aug. 12.

Moffat County boys golf to hold preseason meeting

With high school boys golf starting practice a week before all other fall sports due to weather concerns in the later part of the fall, MCHS is hoping to get a jumpstart on the season.

The team will hold a preseason meeting for anyone interested in playing golf July 29 at 7 p.m. at the high school to go over important information and hand out forms.

Practice begins the following Monday, Aug. 5, and in order to participate all athletes must have completed their physicals and have all parental consent forms signed and turned in.

As a result of the early start to the season, it is common for golfers to miss the first couple days of practice because they do not have the proper paperwork, said co-curricular athletic director Rick Schmitz.

Those forms and other information will be handed out at the preseason meeting.

Craig pool league hosting summer tournament

The Craig Billiards Congress of America pool league, which normally has seasons in the fall and spring, will host a one-day 8-ball tournament in August.

The tournament bracket is limited to 32 players and costs $10 to enter. It will take place beginning at 1 p.m. at Popular Bar, 24 W. Victory Way. All players must be at least 21 years of age.

In addition to the tournament, the Craig BCA is hoping to attract more members to its 8-ball league, which begins in September. There will be a players meeting at 7 p.m. July 31 to discuss information about the upcoming season.

MCHS having fall sports parents information day

Moffat County School District Athletic Director Rick Schmitz has scheduled a parent’s night for all high school fall sports.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 and will give parents a chance to meet the coaches of the fall sports teams — boys golf, boys and girls cross country, football, volleyball, boys soccer and cheerleading — as well as discuss other information pertinent to the upcoming sports season.

A similar meeting is being planned for middle school fall sports, but does not have a set date yet.
